I have spent the vast majority of my life in Iowa. I grew up in Ames and since the late 1980s have lived in Benton County, first in Vinton and then in the country near Garrison. I fell into folk music from a very early age and started plunking around when I found my mother's old and dysfunctional Hawaiian guitar in a closet, unused and unusable for many years. My parents took pity on my efforts and in high school they got me my first real guitar. As a young adult I managed to spend all kinds of time living in several states, hitchhiking a whole lot of miles, working odd jobs, getting married, raising two girls, and getting my education degree 15 years after I had started. I've retired after about 30 years at the Iowa Braille School which means I can spend a lot of my time focusing on the music that has alway been a part of my life.

My musical style
I grew up listening to people like Burl Ives, Tom Paxton, Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, whom I discovered through my parents' record collection. While those influences have never left me, my taste expanded to include people like Gordon Lightfoot, Simon and Garfunkle, Townes Van Zandt and Greg Brown. My musical repertoire includes traditional and contemporary folk, popular songs from the 60s and 70s that people remember, and songs about rural American life, some of which I have written.
With a voice as deep and meaningful as the lyrics of the songs on his setlist, Todd Frank performs with his whole heart and soul. With simple chords and gentle picking, his guitar makes the perfect accompaniment for his smooth rich vicals, and Todd often leaves crowds mesmerized by the by the peace his music brings
